Today I ran an open discussion class for people who wanted to practice their English. I spoke with two men from Syria who had been at the refugee center for a while.
We talked about Syrian culture and the country itself. I had no script on what questions to ask so whatever came to mind was the next topic. I learned that Syrian food has lots of spices unlike Swedish food. When I asked if everyone in the center was Syrian, I learned that the refugee center has a majority of Syrians, but there are people from other countries there as well. I also learned that most Syrians at the center are from the capital, Damascus. This is not surprising since half of the people in Syria live there. The refugees had a good view of America. Many would like to visit sometime.
