Millions of Syrians have fled their homes since the outbreak of civil war in March 2011 with many seeking asylum across the European continent. Sweden, a country of only nine million has accepted four hundred thousand of these refugees and those from other countries straining the resources and political will of the nation. Integrating these newcomers is a top priority for the Swedish government. During the summer of 2016, I volunteered at the Restad Gård Refugee Center in Vänersborg, Sweden to learn about the challenges faced by the refugees and their host country.
